• The General Consumption Tax: This is the tax that importers pay at the Customs when goods are imported. It has many different rates and is regarded as being burdensome on importers and tax administrators. The average rate of this tax is around 20 percent. Consumers ought to be aware that they pay this tax currently in the price of goods and services they consume today.

  • Stamp duties on all domestic cash receipts (bills): This tax has long been regarded as cumbersome by businessmen and therefore will no longer exist under the VAT.

  • Hotel Tax: This tax is usually paid by hotel operators on their annual turnover. Generally under any VAT, special consideration is given to this sector to protect its competitiveness.

  • Telecommunication Surcharge: Which is usually the tax paid on telephone calls.

  • Entertainment tax: This tax is almost entirely repealed as we speak. However, with the introduction of VAT, there would no longer be any entertainment tax on the books.
